Interview with our intern Keyu Deng
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share a bit about your background?
My Name is Keyu Deng, I’m currently a UI/UX design intern at Wildlife Drones, originally from Shenzhen, China, and I’ve been living in Australia for five years. I have a background in urban planning and architectural surveying using drones, which is how I first became interested in drones. My passion for design and technology brought me to Wildlife Drones—a unique opportunity to combine cutting-edge technology with beautiful, functional design.
Why did you choose your current major and what are your career goals?
My focus now is on front-end development and research related to machine learning. I chose this path because I’m deeply fascinated by drones and the potential they have for positive impact. My career goal is to further explore this field, contribute to the development of innovative drone technologies, and make them even more practical and efficient for everyday use.
What do you do at Wildlife Drones?
At Wildlife Drones, I mainly work on user interface design and front-end code compilation for our projects.
What do you like most about working at Wildlife Drones and why?
What I love most about working at Wildlife Drones is the chance to create products tailored to specific needs, especially those that contribute to environmental conservation. It’s incredibly fulfilling to be part of something that makes a positive impact on our ecosystem.
What sustainable practices or habits do you personally incorporate into your daily life?
I try to use water responsibly, for example by using rice rinse water to water my plants. As an international student who frequently travels between China and Australia, I often wish I could swim from China to Canberra to reduce my carbon footprint—just kidding, but it shows how much I care about sustainability!
Are there any eco-friendly products or practices you’d recommend to others?
I recommend simple but effective habits, like reusing water for different household purposes, reducing plastic use, and opting for reusable items whenever possible. These small changes can collectively make a big difference for our planet.
